Digiweb, Ireland’s largest independent Irish-owned telecommunications company has today announced details of an exciting new partnership with CoderDojo, the movement running free not-for-profit coding clubs for young people to learn how to code, develop websites, apps, programs, games and more.
According to Colm Piercy Digiweb Group CEO, “to celebrate the first birthday of CoderDojo, the Digiweb Group has partnered with CoderDojo to create a special birthday gift to CoderDojo and the members of CoderDojo. Digiweb will now offer a free web domain, free web hosting and free cloud infrastructure for each member of CoderDojo in Ireland and the United Kingdom.
The free web domain and web hosting, added to the free cloud infrastructure, will allow young CoderDojo members bring their skills to a whole new level. Many of them are learning key web and coding skills that will equip them with the talent to build their own website and enhance their online presence. Already we have seen some incredible successes from members of CoderDojo who have received national and international recognition for the development work they are doing. With this gift from Digiweb, we believe that more and more will be able to demonstrate their skills to a wider audience.
Thousands of members of CoderDojo are learning valuable skills in a cool environment and the number of CoderDojo members is growing each week as new Dojos open up all over the world. From its birth in Cork one year ago, I’ve watched the growth of CoderDojo with amazement and I predict that the thousands of the young people in CoderDojo will be the leaders of our technology industry in the future.
The Irish Government and governments throughout the world are aware that we need to equip the current generation of young people with the skills in general I.T, web development and coding to ensure that we can keep pace with the developments that are taking place in the sector. CoderDojo, founded by James Whelton and Bill Liao, is probably the most exciting development to emerge that is ensuring that we have young people learning these vital skills in a cool environment. That is why Digiweb are teaming up with CoderDojo to celebrate their 1st birthday in style.”
