Using Digiweb Broadband Talk (VoIP) is exactly the same as using your home phone i.e. you make and receive calls in exactly the same way.
VoIP Telephone Service
Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) is a technology that allows you to make telephone calls using Digiweb’s internet connection instead of your traditional phone line. The packet technology used in VoIP makes more efficient use of communication channels than traditional telephony, which dedicates a distinct voice channel to each individual conversation that is underway.
Digiweb does not offer a backup power facility but our Technical Support team can request a call divert to a local, national or Irish mobile number of your choosing where you experience a power cut. Please note that these calls may be charged where outside of any call bundle minutes you have with Digiweb.
The provided Digiweb modem must be powered on and connected to the Internet at all times for your VoIP service to work.
One of the main benefits is that VoIP can significantly reduce call costs by eliminating line rental charges associated with a traditional landline service.
VoIP phone calls are made through your Fritz!Box using an Analog Telephone Adaptor (ATA). This allows you to connect your standard telephone handset or DECT basestation to your Fritz!Box for making / receiving telephone calls. The ATA takes the analog signal from your standard phone and turns it into a signal that is ready to be sent over your Digiweb broadband connection.
Connect your telephone to the “FON 1” port on the back of the Fritz!Box to start using your VoIP telephone service. The VoIP “Internet light” circled below will be steady green when Digiweb Broadband Talk VoIP is active.
