Digiweb adds Fast 50 Rising Star Award to National Enterprise Award as company creates new tech sector employment and services.
It has been a busy week for DIGIWEB, Ireland’s fastest expanding broadband services provider. Having only just picked up the Overall Winner award in the National Enterprise Awards 2004 last week, the company won a Rising Star Award in the Deloitte Technology Fast 50 ceremony at the Guinness Storehouse last night.
The Technology Fast 50 programme, now in its fifth year, recognises and ranks the fastest-growing technology companies in Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland. Announcing the winners, David O’Flanagan, Partner with Deloitte, Dublin said: “The Fast 50 programme has always been a reliable indicator of whether innovation is leading to more growth and wealth creation.  These companies have demonstrated how to survive and thrive in today’s market by helping their customers reduce their costs and improve their performance”.
Digiweb, which recorded a growth of 705% in the period, has been busy in recent months with the opening of Cork and Waterford offices and the announcement of an additional 45 new jobs over the next three years.  “The awards are a most welcome recognition of all the hard work which goes on behind the scenes in building a new business here in Ireland”, stated Colm Piercy, Managing Director, Digiweb Ltd. “We’re very excited about the opportunities emerging for us at present, and we expect to record a further substantial increase in growth rate during 2005”.
Digiweb was earlier this year awarded 16 licences by ComReg to deliver fixed wireless broadband access across most of the country, and the company is rapidly deploying its own network infrastructure to deliver these services, providing a realistic alternative to landline based solutions from the incumbent telcos.  Digiweb, as a member of the WiMAX Forum, supports the development of the WiMAX standard, the follow-on technology to “WiFi”.  “WiMAX will deliver ultra fast broadband connections without wires to homes and businesses and we expect it to be the single greatest factor in achieving ubiquitous broadband availability in Ireland over the next two years” claimed Declan Campbell, Business Development Manger, Digiweb.
